The 8 Seconds That Decide Your Whole Evening

The door opens. They're already past you, already on the floor. Here are 5 reasons UK dog owners stopped accepting that as normal.

Why Your Towel Never Worked

The mud isn't sitting on top of the paw. It's packed between the pads and matted up into the fur around them, and a towel or a wipe is a flat surface. It physically can't get in there. It cleans the bit you can see, the paw looks fine, and you let them in.

So the mud doesn't go anywhere. It sits in the gaps, dries out over the next hour, and drops off wherever they settle. The hall. The stairs. The sofa at nine o'clock.

That's why your floor is still gritty on the days you did wipe them. It was never that you weren't trying hard enough. The towel was never going to reach it.

If your dog has feathering round the feet, a spaniel, a Golden, anything doodle-shaped, you've got the worst version of this. Twice as much fur for it to hide in.

It Changes What Happens At The Door

Which means the fix was never a better mop.

Eight seconds. That's the gap between the door opening and them being on your carpet, and it's the only part of this you can actually control.

Right now the routine goes: door opens, dog straight through, you follow with the mop. Nobody decided that. It just became the way things are.

PuppyPaw replaces it. Door opens. They stop. Paws get done. Then they come in.

That's the whole change. And once it sticks it runs itself — they wait at the mat because that's simply what happens now.

You haven't got faster at cleaning up. You've changed what your dog does at the door.

Dip. Twist. Dry. About A Minute.

Dip. Warm water in the cup at the door. Paw in.

Twist. A few turns. Soft silicone bristles bend around each toe and lift the mud out of the gaps.

Dry. Lift out, quick pat, next paw.

About fifteen seconds a paw. Four paws, washed and wiped, in about a minute, before any of it reaches your floor.

Warm water on its own is enough for an ordinary muddy walk. No hose, no bathroom.

Day One They'll Hate It. Day Three They'll Ask For It.

First time, they'll look at you like you've completely lost the plot. That's normal, and it's the bit most people get wrong, they push, the dog digs in, and the cup ends up in a cupboard.

So don't rush it. Keep a few treats by the door and let them do the work for you.

Day one - leave it out and let them sniff it. Treat. That's the whole of day one.

Day two - one paw in, no water, straight back out. Treat. Thirty seconds.

Day three - warm water, one paw at a time, treat after each. Never cold water; that's where it usually goes wrong.

Four paws, four treats. Dogs work out that arrangement remarkably fast.

By about day three, something quietly brilliant happens. They stand on the mat and give you the paw before you've asked - and after that you can drop the treats entirely, because the routine has become the routine.

Let Them Be A Dog Again

Be honest, how much of the walk do you spend steering them away from things? Not that puddle. Not the ditch. Not the bit by the river, we've got people coming over.

Now they can dig, roll, and find the only bog in a dry field. You won't care. It's sorted in about a minute at the door.

That's the real thing you're buying. Not a cup, the freedom to stop hovering.

Most people end up with two: one by the back door, one in the boot. Because the mud never turns up somewhere convenient, and the one at home is no use at a field gate in the rain.

Why can we offer that?

Because the thing that convinces people isn't our copy — it's the colour of the water after the first paw. We'd rather you saw that for yourself than took our word for it.
